In this required five-session program, the essentials of our
relationship-coaching process are applied to your situation. You
are introduced to the working process that we use throughout our
programs and start using it yourself with your first coaching
session.
Note: Before taking the Foundation Coaching Program, you need
to complete the individual 50-minute Personal Coaching
Consultation.
- Foundation Coaching is spread over six weeks. It consists
of -
- For individual coaching -
- One 90-min. session, followed by
- Four 45-minute sessions
- For couples coaching -
- An initial 90-minute couple session,
followed by
- One 45-minute individual session
for each partner) then
- Two 45-minute couple sessions.
The working process that will guide what
we do:
- Review your relationship or situation to find what needs changing
- Identify the skills that are needed
- Develop your own "learn and practice" action plan
- Learn essential skills, with help from your coach
- Practice new skills with your partner (friend or family member)
- Learn optimism, expand your vision, deal with obstacles as
they arise
This working process is built around a powerful model for personal
and relationship change. The model has four elements:
- Insight. As your understanding of marriage and couple
relationships grows, you gain options for action, solutions
to problems and routes to success that you didn't have before.
With the Relationship Coaching Program, you receive two Article
Collections - 20+ articles - from Dr. Sanford's Relationship
Library that increase your insight and speak to your relationship
problems and goals.
- Skills. In the Program you learn the skills
that should have been there when the relationship floundered,
plus the skills you will naturally want as your situation improves.
- Practice. Your coach will help you structure
practice plans, evaluate the results, and redesign - as you
work toward success. As a participant in the Foundation Coaching
Program, you become a member of the Practice Community and receive
your own online journals (blogs). Use one journal - first name
only, if you wish - to record your coaching goals, your action
plans, practice experiments and the results.
- Support. If you wish, share your online journals
with others in the Practice Community. Gain the benefit of their
insight, experience and support. Receive strong support from
your coach, who will be there for you even when you doubt yourself.
After the Foundation Coaching Program
The end of the Foundation Program will hopefully find you committed
to continuing transformative work on yourself and on your marriage
or couple relationship. During the final Foundation session, you
and your coach will talk about your options for the future. Among
those options will be -
- To continue with individual or couples coaching
- To continue coaching, but switch to a different program.
E.g., you might move from individual coaching to a coaching
group
- To decide not to continue active coaching for the
moment but plan to keep your membership in the Practice Community
open and to rely on Community contacts for support and suggestions.
