Probably the best way to get a sense of me is to read some of
my articles and check
out my personal
blog.
After that, if you are interested in doing individual, couple
or group coaching with me, sign up for the free
teleclass, "Introduction to Relationship Coaching ."
While you are considering whether or not to do any of these,
here's my version of the standard bio/experience statement:
I have been a practicing psychotherapist for the past 21 years
in South Portland, Maine. I have published over 800 articles on
marriage and couple relationships. I am an occasional columnist
for "Marriage" magazine and write regularly for Family
Information Services. I created this internet site and write all
its text.
Before becoming a psychotherapist I was a member of teacher-education
faculties at state universities in New York, California and Illinois.
Way back I was a public-school teacher (6th grade).
I am a Clinical Member of the American Association of Marriage
and Family Therapy. I am certified by the National Board for Certified
Counselors and licensed in Maine as a clinical social worker.
I am also a practicing coach. I have completed the foundation
coaching program offered by the Coach Training Institute.
I have a B.A. degree from Wesleyan University in Connecticut,
an M.A. degree from the University of California, Berkeley, an
M.S.W. degree from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana
and a PhD in Education from The Johns Hopkins University.
I have first-hand experience with many of the issues of marriage,
divorce, single-parenthood, remarriage and stepfamily life encountered
by the people with whom I do relationship counseling and coaching.
When my wife Joyce and I first met, we were both single parents
raising young children by ourselves, Joyce with two kids and I
with three. We have now been married 22 years. Our five children
are grown and are off doing their own couple learning - as we
continue to do.
